Fishing in a pike paradise on the Åland Islands
12.05.2026, David Havlíček

At the turn of April and May, I visited the Åland archipelago with my friends Zdeněk (from CK Pepa) and Marek, focusing primarily on pike fishing. During the first few days, we discovered that the pike there reacted exceptionally well to our largest Redbass nymph (XXL – 20 cm), which proved highly effective near the reed beds. Catches of 90, 92, 98, and 100 cm are a testament to that. It wasn't just the trophy pike; even those in the 60–80 cm range took the lure reliably. In open water, the XXL Kicker worked brilliantly several times, while on other days in the same spots, smaller versions of this excellent lure (XXL – 15.5 cm) performed better. We caught the most fish using the Super Natur color. During this trip, I particularly enjoyed fishing with the Prorex AGS baitcasting rod (40–80 g) paired with a 25 Ryoga 100 reel. This combo, along with the Ballistic Air setup (18–56 g) and a Luvias 5000 reel, was a real treat to use. I also had a few zander on the line, but unfortunately, they got off.

Opening of the 2026 trout season
16.04.2026, David Havlíček
-
After the boys’ success at the competition in Jestřabice, where they took a fantastic second place, the trout season opening followed.
This year we approached it a bit unconventionally. For now, we left the brown trout alone and headed to a secluded stream with no people around. Right from the start, it was great. The spoon worked well, but especially the Trout Grub with a spike did the job. And when the action slowed down, our RedBass nymph kicked in at full power and showed its long-proven strength. We’re satisfied and will continue to enjoy plenty of these fish ????
Tight lines to everyone!

A Trophy December and an Exotic January
09.02.2026, David Havlíček

The end of December was all about big zander. A series of fish over 80 cm was simply unbelievable — earned through long hours on the water, maximum focus, and precise lure presentation. But when everything comes together, the reward follows. RedBass nymphs once again proved their quality and reliability, even in the toughest conditions. As a bonus, a truly big pike showed up as well.
At the turn of the year, we swapped winter waters for the tropics and headed to Colombia for peacock bass. Brutal fights with these extremely powerful fish thoroughly tested not only us, but our gear too. DAIWA spinning rods and reels, along with Grundéns apparel, performed flawlessly even in demanding jungle conditions.
During the trip, we landed over 300 peacock bass, with more than 30 fish in trophy size. The clear standout lures were the RedBass BigSnake soft bait and the surface legend Whopper Plopper by River2Sea, which triggered the most aggressive strikes.
A trophy end to the year. An exotic start to the new one. Exactly how it should be.

December – a great chance for a trophy fish!

The prime time for big fish is peaking, and the results from the water prove it! A huge pike, another big zander, and plenty of smaller ones. Don’t stay at home—get out there! We can rest in January! :-)

The time of big zander is here — and it’s not ending!

We’ve been waiting for this! The time of big fish has arrived, and the chances of catching a trophy predator remain high all the way until the end of the year. You just need to avoid staying at home, dress properly, and head to the water. Layered GRUNDÉNS clothing has worked well for me—thermal underwear, a warm shirt, a “sleeping-bag” layer, and an outer shell. Plus our new RedBass beanie, which not only keeps me warm but also brings me luck! In addition to plenty of smaller zander and pike up to 80 cm, I managed to catch several big zander—and Ondra didn’t stay behind either. Simply put, the time of big fish is here!
