26.08.2025 Sweden 2025 - Our traditional expedition to northern Sweden is behind us. It will take a while to fully evaluate it – eighteen days in the wilderness must first settle in our minds and hearts. It was an expedition that tested our endurance and determination. Exposed to constant inclement weather, the fisherman crawls into his tent in the evening, windswept, wet, and tired, yet with inner peace as the pot with dinner bubbles over the fire. Every two or three days, we packed up and traveled hundreds of kilometers further, looking for new waters, new places, new challenges. And that is the magic of this way of traveling and fishing—no cabins, no comforts, no guides. Just us, raw nature, and fish. This year, we traveled so far north that "the foxes say good night here"... although here, high above the Arctic Circle, you can't expect a proper night even in August. The wilderness showed us its beauty and harshness. We didn't encounter many fish this year – we faced stable strong winds, sometimes even gales, often with rain, and the water was either too low or, on the contrary, flooded and wild. Nevertheless, we did not give up. We were rewarded with many beautiful perch 40–45 cm long, about a dozen pike over 90 cm, including one meter-long and one just under the limit. We even found a spot where we caught pike at the same time and had to fit two in the landing net :-) No trout over 60 cm showed up this year, the maximum remained at 55 cm – but that didn't take away our joy.The biggest surprise this time was the salmon. We saw them jumping in the rapids – their size (fish 31–35 inches and maybe even bigger) and the overall magic of the moment was so strong that it sent shivers down our spines. And Ondra was lucky enough to catch one on his rod! Unfortunately, the fish was huge, he couldn't stop it, and after dozens of meters of frantic running, the line was cut by sharp rocks. That moment was a mixture of euphoria, despair, and enormous respect. And right there, a new desire was born in us: to catch a salmon. Something we hadn't even thought about until this year has now become the goal of our next expedition. However, in order to be successful, we will have to prepare differently. This year, it was a big unknown for us, and any catch was just a matter of chance. So maybe next time!
